CHI Council Bluffs Hires National Radon Defense Midwest to Solve Soil Vapor Intrusion
Challenge
Robert of Thiele Geotech reached out to our team with an issue of concerning soil gases at the Council Bluffs CHI clinic. Our president, Curt Drew, and general manager, Anthony Maeser met with Robert to discuss the soil vapor intrusion problem and talk about solutions. As part of the process, they conducted an extensive analysis on the permeability of the soil under the existing slab to determine the number of extraction points and type of radon extraction fans. Together they designed a system of 5 extraction points, including customized roof brackets for each exhaust fan, to effectively remove the soil vapor gases from the building.
Solution
Our technician, Lance Lichtas, installed 5 mitigation systems with 5 extraction points. He built custom brackets and mounted the fans on the CHI roof. Each mitigation system installed was an active soil depressurization system comprised of a soil gas extraction fan, air flow gauge, and an extraction point.
